“You Are Perfect in My Eyes is my depiction of Jesus. Many portrayals show him looking away from the viewer. I wanted him looking directly at me—with an expression to see and feel his pure love and compassion—creating a real, personal ‘connection’ with me. As part of my religious upbringing, I was taught we are to ‘strive to become perfect, even as Jesus’; and yet, we can never become perfect in this lifetime. After 27 years of feeling ‘less than perfect’ and self-sabotage for not being perfect, I received my own personal revelation: Jesus sees me as I truly am—a perfect child—that I am perfectly ME. That feeling of love and acceptance transformed me. No longer would I choose to feel guilty and ashamed for whom I am. I am free—I am perfectly me.”

Grace
|
“Grace was drawn from a color photograph I took while taking in the fragrant, sweet, spring scents of colorful flower beds in downtown Salt Lake City.
The original rendering was donated to a lucky, winning ticket holder at a bridal fair at which I was a vendor artist. Grace, with its long, slender stem, stands for gentleness and beauty.” ~Darin Jones |
Metamorphosis
|
“Metamorphosis was actually a college art assignment of combining elements from masters’ works with our own.
This transformational piece shows the caterpillar crawling along a soon-to-be budding branch—the anticipation of a new birth. The branch turns into bone, and, along the ‘journey’, it completes its stage in the form of the butterfly in the ‘womb’ of where birth originates.” ~Darin Jones |
Anticipation
Signed, Limited Edition
of 125 on Archival Paper 9"x12" $45 |
“Anticipation is one of my self-
portraits when I was a mid-twenties college student at Utah State University. The assignment was to draw ourselves while ‘looking’ in the mirror. I came up with this crazy idea of drawing myself with my eyes closed. When we presented our portraits in class, my professor, Jon Anderson, was, at first, baffled how I pulled it off. Then! He figured it out—I kept one eye open to draw the closed eye and then switched to draw the other eye closed. Of course, I received an A!” ~Darin Jones |
